SEIU Local 1 has been on the cutting edge of building power for low-wage workers in service industries and fighting in larger struggles for social justice on issues such as health care, immigration, economic wins for workers and education reform. We are now hiring an Internal Organizing Director.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing a strategic vision and plan for the overall internal program of the Union
  • Leading and providing support to teams of staff and members in the execution of the overall internal organizing program as well as individual work plans
  • Working with a team to develop and assist in trainings of staff and member organizers
  • Working hands-on in the field with staff and members to provide support for the internal program
  • Assisting in creating and articulating a positive vision for the internal program of the union and the union as a whole
  • Conducting individual and group meetings with workers to discuss and plan the internal program of the union
  • Motivate and work with staff to identify, recruit, and develop leaders to develop and carry-out the internal program of the union
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years of experience as a lead organizer/coordinator
  • Experience in prior management of union staff
  • Ability to “coach” staff and members around development plans
  • Commitment to social justice and the creation of a culture of respect as well as racial equity and inclusion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually
  • Willingness and ability to work long and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Flexibility for travel based on work assignments
  • Driver’s license and reliable car is a must
  • Motivated self- starter who is also a solid team player
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong personal planning and time management skills
  • The ability to work with people from other cultures and backgrounds
